In addition to the Health Team based here at Valence, we offer a range of other Peripatetic Services on-site.
All students and families will have an annual medical review with a Consultant Community Paediatrician and relevant members of the Health Team to develop an individualised Medical Care Plan.
Parents welcome the fact that we can offer regular dental and dental hygiene clinics on-site. We have a fully fitted and adapted dental surgery where regular inspections, cleaning and simple procedures are carried out by our visiting NHS dentist, dental assistant and hygienist. Students are supported by their keyworkers and the nursing staff for these appointments. If more complex treatment is necessary it can be provided at the local Disabled Dental service at Sevenoaks Hospital. Appointments are supported for residential students by the school staff.
Termly clinics are provided by the NHS Podiatrist who visits the school regularly.
Dietitian and Dietetic Assistant
Dietetic input, treatment and advice are provided by a visiting NHS dietitian. She attends the school two days a week and is supported by her assistant who spends three days a week managing the Valence students’ needs. They run regular feeding clinics inviting parents to discussion and planning for their children’s dietetic needs and keep in very close contact to support parents and students when their needs are complex or causing concern.
We have a visiting Orthotist who provides an efficient and high quality service. Splinting clinics are run regularly. Students are supported by school staff to attend but parents are always welcome and invited.
Kent Wheelchair Services provides regular assessment clinics at Valence run by their specialist therapists and engineers working jointly with our therapy teams. The Valence therapists will support out of county students and family and attend wheelchair appointments off site if necessary.
In collaboration with AJ Engineering the Physiotherapy assistant/ wheelchair technician runs a weekly wheelchair repair clinic for NHS supplied wheelchairs. The Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy assistant/technicians support parents, students and staff with the maintenance and repair of equipment and will support families in managing privately funded equipment.
Evelina Children’s Hospital - Outreach Clinics
Lastly but not least we are very lucky to have a close working relationship with The Evelina Children’s Hospital (ECH). Consultants from ECH hold regular clinics at Valence, throughout the year. These include clinics in Paediatric Orthopaedics, a Consultant Spinal Surgeon, a Neuromuscular Consultant and a Neuro-paediatrician. These clinics help us to support the many students who will need surgery or other interventions both pre and post operatively as well as support parents and students with their medication and other medical concerns. School therapists and nurses will support and attend these clinics.
