Student Support Assistant (Weekdays & Weekends)

Full Time - Term Time Only – Permanent

£9.50 per hour for 39 weeks plus 5.5 weeks paid holiday 

40 hours per week on set shifts 

  • ​2 Early shifts (7am to 2pm)
  • ​2 Late shifts (12.30pm to 10pm)
  • ​1 Day shift (8.30am to 4pm)

​There is also the option to work a 12 hour shift for 8 weekend days per academic year.  This is paid at a total hourly rate if £17.50.

Our Student Support Assistants are committed individuals that want to make a difference by being responsible for enabling students to learn, promoting their independence and helping them to achieve.

As a Student Support Assistant you will:

  • support students within the learning and/or residential environment in order to promote each student’s intellectual, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development;
  • promote a caring environment and provide a high standard of care including washing, toileting and mealtime assistance;
  • ensure that communication with students, staff and other departments is effective and contributes to securing efficiency and high standards of care and personal development for students;
  • maintain high standards of safety and observe good practice in relation to health and safety issues, implement students’ care plans and appropriately use the recording and reporting processes.

The role will include a substantial amount of moving and handling and personal care.

Experience of complex physical and medical needs is desirable along with Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent) A*-C grade, however an aspiration to enable students to learn and achieve meaningful independence is essential.

The successful candidate will be supported to complete the Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare if this has not already been achieved.  We also offer a supportive, friendly working environment in a country school setting and the chance to make a real and positive impact on the lives of Valence students.
