School Term Time Only

or

VOLUNTEERS FOR SCHOOL COMMUNITY CHARITY SHOP

All Year Round

If you enjoy working with children and young people and want to enable our students to learn and aspire to achieve meaningful independence, please apply below.  No previous experience is required as full training will be provided.

Valence School is a Kent County Council special school with residential facilities for students aged from 4 to 19 with physical disabilities, complex medical needs and associated learning and communication difficulties.  We are part of the Kent Special Educational Needs Trust (KsENT).

Term time volunteering opportunities:

Swimming Support: we are seeking local volunteers who would be willing to spend 2 hours per week during term time, supporting our students in the water during their swimming lessons.  This is a hugely rewarding experience, and you will find our students are highly motivated, appreciative and love swimming!  You will need to enjoy being in the water and able to swim a minimum of 25m.

Scribing in Class: would you like to help our secondary school students record their ideas in writing?  If you could devote 90 minutes each week to scribe, either by hand or on a computer, for our physically disabled students to access their learning.

Transport Safety: could you support with the arrival and/or departure of students at Valence?  If you could spare an hour before or after school (8.15-9.15am and/or 3.00-4.00pm) to help direct transport vehicles so that they are organised and parked safely.

All year round volunteering opportunities:

School Community Charity Shop: The ‘Friends of Valence School’ have secured the lease of a shop in Westerham to launch our very first Community and Charity Shop!

We have an exciting opportunity for volunteers to assist in our shop, and you will play an important role in raising vital funds. This is a great way to meet new people, develop customer service skills, work with a small team and be part of the local community.

In this role, you will be meeting donors and receiving donations, sorting, labelling, and pricing stock. You will be a friendly face greeting and helping customers, serving on the till (training provided). To keep the shop inviting and well presented, you will assist with shop displays, re-stocking, light cleaning and tidy duties.

If you can spare a morning or afternoon, we are seeking local volunteers who would be willing to devote their time to support the Charity Shop Manager, Assistant Manager and our students who will be provided with valuable work experience.

For further information on any of our volunteering opportunities, please contact the HR team: vacancies@valence.kent.sch.uk or call 01959 567841.
