Keller Pathway
Pre-formal approach
Students in the Keller pathway are our students with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD). Personalised EHCP targets form much of the mapped learning for students in the Keller Pathway, which allows teachers to track individual progress, alongside the structure of the IMPACTS curriculum.
Students in the pre-formal setting (Keller 1 and 2) follow the principals of the IMPACTS curriculum, which is an approach that provides students with individualised targets that focus on communication, cognition, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, and personal, social, and emotional wellbeing (PSEW). This enables students to develop a sense of security in the school environment, to establish positive relationships with familiar adults, to explore the world around them using their sensory and physical capabilities, and to establish behaviours through which they can communicate with other people.
In the Keller pathway, students cover a different topic every term. For Keller 1 and Keller 2, please see example topics that are taught termly below:
- Time flies when you’re having fun
- Seasons greetings
- Seasons, Weather & Change: Winter
- Seasons, Weather & Change: Winter to Spring
- Seasons, Weather & Change: Spring to Summer
- Seasons, Weather & Change: Summer
- Waste not, want not
- The early bird catches the worm
- There are other fish in the sea
- Building Bridges
In addition to these topics, students in the Keller pathway also have PE and Swim, as well as Cooking and Music.
